Funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), Mission 4 Component 2 Investment 1.3, Theme 10.
The initiative aims to support fundamental research, industrial activities, and experimental development in the food sector. The University of Parma, acting as the Implementing Entity of Spoke 1, has allocated €4,983,750 to fund innovative projects.
OnFoods promotes a cascade funding mechanism, encouraging external businesses, public and private research organizations, and partnerships to engage in research related to the HUB and the Spokes. The goal is to foster original and innovative research projects in food and nutrition, focusing on sustainability and technology transfer.
Research partnerships comprising a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 entities, including micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, large corporations, state universities, and research organizations overseen by the Ministry of Education, Universities, and Research (MUR), are invited to submit their proposals.
Spoke 1's research topics concentrate on addressing the challenges of the fragmented food system, information asymmetry, and unsustainable consumption patterns. It seeks to enhance efficiency and sustainability through technological, managerial, and social innovations, including circular economy practices that promote waste and by-product reuse in agri-food supply chains.
The overall project's objectives are to create transparent information systems, combat climate change, and provide access to safe and high-quality food for vulnerable populations. By encouraging innovation and collaboration in the food industry, this initiative aims to pave the way for a more sustainable future.
